Prepared by Pitchbook, this 16-page report looks at M&A activity during 2015 – a year with a fair share of volatility, yet one during which the strategic need for M&A continued to drive activity.

2015 saw a record level of overall transaction value and a health volume of deals. Concerns arose about global economies, but these caused dealmakers focused on long-term growth to remain in acquisition mode.

The strengthening U.S. economy, with rising cash reserves and stock prices, have made exits relatively easier for private companies. The availability of cheap debt also created an environment where companies had the means to close deals and the incentives to do so.
